Pastor John Sparks
Pastor
What sets Pastor John apart is his vernacular and the colorful idioms he uses to bring the Bible to life. At first, some might think, “Who is this country bumpkin, and what could he possibly teach me about Scripture?” But one thoughtful listener captured it perfectly: “What’s quirky about John is definitely his unusual way of saying things—he has these interesting idioms for life that catch you off guard and make you smile. That’s the ‘shock’ that draws you in. But the ‘awe’ comes from his deep truths rooted in God’s Word. He has a gift for making Scripture both practical and powerful, and those nuggets of wisdom are what keep us coming back week after week. John doesn’t just preach—he connects Scripture to real life.”

5. What do you love most about Lighthouse Bible Church?
Pastor John loves that at Lighthouse Bible Church, he gets to truly be himself. He can use his gifts and talents in a way that fits him “like a good pair of gloves.” What excites him most right now is that the church is beginning to “catch fire.”
6. Who are your favorite authors?
When it comes to the Bible and Christian living, Pastor John’s favorite authors include John Eldredge (Wild at Heart), Dallas Willard, John Mark Comer, Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest), and Reggie McNeal. Outside of biblical reading, without a doubt, his favorite author is Peter H. Capstick.
7. What really makes you tick?
What fuels Pastor John’s passion is taking the customs, culture, and sayings of Jesus and His world in Israel, and translating them into the context of life in the USA today. Nothing excites him more than looking out into the audience, seeing a “light bulb” go off, and knowing that, in that moment, someone truly got it.
